try jumping from a cliff into the sea
This exercise is designed to take you out of your comfort zone. You need a little courage.
First, find a suitable place, with a cliff a few metres high, a rocky coastline where you can jump into the sea safely – where the water is deep and you will come to no harm.
Even knowing that it is safe to jump, your mind will create fear. And yet, if you can ignore your thinking mind and jump anyway, no harm will come.
It is strange, is it not? The mind can know rationally that something is safe; and yet, another part of the mind is fearful, is telling you not to do it. So with this little exercise, try to overcome that fear. Try to go beyond what is comfortable. With this, your trust in existence will increase. And the fearful part of your mind will be lessened, weakened. It will lose some of its control over you.
Trusting in existence is a large part of the spiritual journey. And by stepping outside your comfort zone, you can help this trust to grow.
So try jumping into the sea from a cliff a few metres high. And you will see: the less you think about it, the more you will enjoy it. And the more you think about it, the more fearful and unenjoyable the experience will be. So sometimes with life it's best to jump before thinking even has time to throw up objections.
Try jumping into the sea.
